I've always considered myself someone who works well with others. Collaborating on design projects and seeing a concept come to life across a variety of applications is both challenging and rewarding.

With more than 25 years of experience in corporate identity, branding, and environmental graphics, I've learned that meaningful design requires stepping outside your comfort zone. The best results come through dedication, hard work, and a willingness to embrace new challenges.

The number 69 holds personal significance for me. It represents hope, peace, guidance, and the balance symbolized by yin and yang. That sense of balance extends to both my professional and personal life.

By nature, I value harmony, quality, and collaboration. I prefer to influence through creativity, trust, and example rather than authority. Whether working with family, clients, or a team, I thrive in supportive environments where everyone contributes as equals. Those relationships bring out my best work and reflect the designer—and person—I strive to be.

My Story.

  • "I've had the pleasure of working with Steve Clifton on several projects over the past 15 years. His commitment to our clients and detail-oriented nature provides a creative and productive project environment. • "Steven's strong portfolio in Environmental Graphics was exactly what we needed when planning campus signage for a new museum of natural science. His creativity and hip style helped our team to think about environmental graphics in new ways. He has a professional demeanor and strong work ethic. His concept art was always neat, organized, and of a quality that was presentable to the Board of Directors. His fabrication bid drawings answered all questions about size, material, methods, and placement of the signs on our campus. Steven was with us every step of the way during our museum project and was always a pleasure with which to work. I would recommend Steven for your next Environmental Graphics project and I look forward to working with him in the future."

  • "It was exciting and fun to work alongside such a talented person and to this day I would love an opportunity to be a co-designer with Steve Clifton again. If I owned a firm, he would be my first hire."

  • “Working with Steve was always productive and fun. His way of working is very effortless and he has a natural ability to accept and understand the parameters of each project, while consistently finding inventive solutions. Steve and I worked closely on the creation of the Majestic MLB - Onfield Apparel program. Both of the first 2 locations (NY Mets Stadium and Fenway Park, Boston) included a custom signage program, overlaid to an "off the shelf" fixture program. Steve was very successful in creating a solution that felt like a custom program. And did a great job of linking the product in the store to the product on the field. With Yamaha, Steve simply provided a strategy that helped consumers navigate the wide selection of product often found in a multi-line dealership program. Solutions that satisfied not only Yamaha, but also provided the owner of the multi-line dealership an opportunity to highlight more effectively the "benefits and features" of each select Yamaha vehicle.

  • "I had the joy of collaborating with Steve as part of a new museum build project where I, among other responsibilities, served as project manager for the design and build of the Exhibits and the facility. Steve was one of many independent contractors on the project, but was by far one of the most diligent, responsive, and detail orientated. Very little in our project was off the shelf. Steve was able to showcase his creativity and design skills in helping us take the mundane and putting the Museums custom spin on it while keeping everything consistent and to code. Steve's role focused largely around signage and wall designs. He was able to design for a variety of areas from a toddler classroom to administrative offices, giving each a unique feel while keeping the brand integrity across them all and taking input from a variety of directions. Our project was spread over years and was often hurry up then wait. Steve's professionalism, the quality of his work, and his affinity for people, lead us to expand his scope multiple times over the course of the project. I would highly recommend him and hope to continue to work with him on projects in the future.

Heather Sellers, Cooks Museum of Natural Science

  • I have had the pleasure of working with Steven on multiple projects. Steven is a talented and imaginative designer with a strong visual sense and an eye for detail. His illustrative skills and understanding of the detailing required to design a manufactured product make him a strong, well-rounded experiential graphic designer. Steven brings a positive vibe and a cheerful enthusiasm to every project. I enjoyed our work together and would recommend him to anyone seeking an inspiring and dedicated designer and all-around good guy!
